THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime loss to UT Tyler Saturday Night at Patriot Soccer Field. After carrying a two-goal advantage for most of the contest, UTT goals in the 73rd, 84th, and 91st minutes eliminated DBU from LSC Tournament contention.
DBU came out swinging throughout the first half of action. The offense punched in a score in the fifth minute as Ethan Martinez connected with Mason Wallak for a 1-0 advantage. Just three minutes later, Martinez kept the ball himself to provide the 2-0 insurance score. Defensively, the Patriots swarmed UTT for the first 45 minutes, limiting them to just four shot attempts at intermission.Â
A much more aggressive UT Tyler squad emerged after halftime. As the game progressed, UTT became increasingly comfortable in DBU's defending third of the field, outshooting the Patriots 11-4 in the final frame. A penalty kick in the 73rd minute from Bryan Rivas-Guzman bested DBU goalkeeper Alexander Knepper to put UTT on the scoreboard. Then, just nine minutes later, an unassisted goal from UTTs Shane Popieluch forced overtime at 2-2.
UT Tyler stormed down the field and forced a corner kick just 45 seconds into the overtime period. Rivas-Guzman connected with the head of Shane Popieluch for the 3-2 strike to conclude the match.

COACH JESS JOBE ON THE SEASON
"We are obviously disappointed. To lose a game in that way and lose a game that means so much to our program. It is a feeling we need to hold on to and remember for a little bit. To remember how it feels to fall short on something we should have accomplished... I am proud of the group and this program for the growth that has taken place this year.Â
We say goodbye to some seniors that have made big contributions to this program, and we are thankful for everything they've done. The players that have an opportunity to return will hopefully learn a lot from this season. This was a disappointing way to lose, but I am proud of this team and excited for the future."
