THE RUNDOWN
DBU (12-6, 9-6) completed a 3-0 sweep over UT Permian Basin (14-9, 9-6) on senior day at the Burg Center in Dallas, Texas to pick up a crucial tiebreaker over the Falcons in the Lone Star Conference standings.
Halee Van Poppel notched 16 kills and 3 blocks, while four other Lady Patriots collected at least 5 kills in the strong offensive showing.
DBU and UTPB battled back and forth until a 5-0 run gave the Lady Patriots a 21-15 lead. The Falcons picked up two points before DBU closed out the opening frame with a 4-0 stretch to take the 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Patriots did not waste any time opening up a lead in the second set, jumping out to a six-point lead at 11-5 as
Aryn Walton picked up a kill. DBU would sit on set point at 24-15, but the Falcons showed resiliency and stringed together five straight before a bad set by Aquincia Strambler gave DBU a 2-0 lead in the match.
Neither team ceded a large lead early, with UTPB playing the Lady Patriots to a 15-15 tie halfway through the third set. A 4-0 run gave DBU the momentum needed, and the Falcons' only other point of the match would come on a service error. The Lady Patriots picked up each of the final six points, with
Audrey Nunes closing out the afternoon with her fifth kill.
