THE RUNDOWNÂ
DBU (6-4) returned to form on both ends of the court, shooting over 41 percent from deep while stifling Southwestern Oklahoma State (3-6) offensively in a wire-to-wire 84-54 win on Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center.Â
The Patriots jumped out to a 16-5 lead on a
Jack Johnson triple, capping a 14-1 run. SWOSU attempted to climb back into the game but would get no closer than seven. The Bulldogs employed a full-court trap to no avail, as DBU consistently broke it and exploited the defense to the tune of 43 first half points and 6 made threes. A 17-2 stretch, with 8 of those points coming from
Austin Garner, opened the floodgates to give the Patriots a 19-point advantage at the break.
Southwestern Oklahoma State switched to a full-court press in the second half, but the tactic backfired in favor of the Patriots. Consecutive Garner triples to open the frame reinforced the DBU lead, and coach Flickner's squad led by as much as 32 en route to a much-needed win.Â
