THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Basketball celebrated Senior Day by outlasting Western New Mexico,78-67 Saturday night at the Burg Center. The Patriots (15-3, 12-3 LSC) and the Mustangs (0-9) played a gritty defensive contest that featured a combined 45 fouls and 64 attempts from the free-throw line. With the win, DBU finishes the 2020-2021 regular season with an undefeated (9-0) home record.
Both squads entered halftime with black eyes on the box score. The Mustangs slowed their own offensive attack by coughing the basketball up 12 times on turnovers. However, WNMU bullied the Patriots under the cup, limiting DBU to just six first-half rebounds to enter intermission with a 32-30 lead.
Things changed in the second half, as freshman Cameron Kahn became a menace that buried the Mustangs under a 13-of-16 performance from the charity stripe. Kahn finished with a game-high 27 points on a surgical 7-of-8 shooting. Chandler Jacobs made his presence felt on Senior Day as well; the veteran guard compiled a complete game that featured 20 points and a game-high five steals. Ricky Lujan (12 points) and Jalen White (11 points) helped bolster the offense for spurts as the Patriots finish the season with the second-most wins in the Lone Star Conference.

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WIN
"It was another gritty win. I loved seeing Jalen, Cam [Cameron Kahn], Carson, and Ricky fight for loose balls. Shots weren't falling in the first half, but we stuck with it and had our run... It was great to see Cam be so efficient tonight, and Chandler was Chandler. He really made a defensive impact tonight and came up huge with five steals."
