No. 16 DBU Falls to No. 5 Buffs, 85-62 in NCAA Regional Semifinals

THE RUNDOWN
DBU fell to West Texas A&M, 85-62, in the semifinal round of the NCAA Regional Championship late Sunday night in Lubbock, Texas. With the loss, the Patriots' season comes to an end at the hands of a WT offense that shot 50 percent from the field as four different Buffs reached double figures.

William Heather scored DBU's first seven points to help the Patriots keep pace with West Texas A&M's Hayden Blankley, who nailed four first-half treys. Qua Grant (20 points, nine rebounds) sparked WT's first big run of the contest with a quick 10 points on just four shots. DBU would stomach the Buffs' best punches as Chandler Jacobs snuck in a buzzer-beating floater to trim a double-digit deficit to just seven points at intermission.

Second-chance points, turnovers, and missed fast break opportunities would undo an exhausted DBU's progress in the final frame. The Patriots inched as close as 43-47 at the 14:00 minute mark in the second half; DBU would then cough the ball up on two of their next three possessions as the Buffs embarked on a 7-0 run that would ultimately put the Patriots away. WT was able to cash numerous missed jumpers into 13 second-chance points, as Grant and Joel Murray (21 points, nine assists) continued to fight off Patriot advances for the remainder of the game.

Chandler Jacobs led the Patriots with 17 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. Jacobs--DBU's freshly anointed all-time leading scorer--was joined in double figures by William Heather, who chipped in 15 points on efficient 7-of-8 shooting.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-Sunday's appearance marked DBU's first NCAA Regional Semifinal since 2009.
-Chandler Jacobs closes another chapter of his Patriot career with 1918 career points, the most in program history.
-The 83-61 loss was DBU's second game in 24 hours, as the Patriots had just played Southern Arkansas at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE SEASON
"This season has felt like a dream in a lot of ways. We didn't reach our final aspirations, but it was quite a journey. I told the guys I was proud of them and thanked them for giving me everything they had... It's a shame that game had to happen so early in the tournament, but that just speaks to our region's depth. Chandler threatened a triple-double tonight while playing through extreme pain and exhaustion. Everyone gave their all and I am so proud of these guys."
