Volleyball Secures 3-1 Win at TWU

THE RUNDOWN
On a night where Bailey Hebert recorded a career high 18 kills, DBU (2-7) closed the door on a TWU (3-4) comeback and secured a 3-1 road victory (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23).

The Lady Patriots got things going early in the opening set, jumping out to a 7-2 lead as five different players notched a kill. A kill from Alyssa Parks gave DBU a 17-10 advantage before a Texas Women's run brought the Pioneers to within one point at 19-18. A pair of Macey Winburn assists to Carly Earnest and Sofia Black brought DBU to set point, and a service error sealed the deal as the Lady Patriots clinched a 1-0 lead.

TWU found themselves up 2-1 early in the second set and never looked back, holding the lead the entire way en route to a match-evening win. DBU did not go down without a fight, staying within five points for most of the set. Black's back corner kill off a Kayla Brock feed pulled the Lady Patriots to within two at 18-16, but a 7-2 stretch by the Pioneers closed out the scoring and knotted the match up at 1-1.

Texas Women's opened up a 10-4 edge, but a flurry of defensive plays – spearheaded by Black and Allison Shidaker – brought DBU back to a 12-12 tie halfway through the third set. After surrendering the lead again, the Lady Patriots stayed close and eventually pulled even at 21-apiece. Hebert registered two of her personal-best 18 kills in the clutch, as a DBU surge gave Cathy Kokel's squad the win in a pivotal set, 25-22.

Looking to finish off the Pioneers, DBU powered through the opening few possessions and held a 5-1 advantage. TWU would not go away, however, and multiple Pioneer runs – including a 4-0 stretch while DBU sat on match point – prolonged the game. A strike from Black across the middle proved to be the deciding point, as the Lady Patriots put the finishing touches on their first road win of the season.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- In addition to having a team-high 19 assists, Macey Winburn recorded a perfect attack percentage with 5 kills on 5 total attacks.
- Kayla Brock showcased her versatility on offense and defense, posting double-digit assists (13) and digs (15) for the third time this season.
- DBU holds a 2-1 lead in the season series against TWU. The Lady Patriots look to secure the series with a win tomorrow night.

CATHY KOKEL ON WHAT STOOD OUT TONIGHT AND WHAT TO PREPARE FOR TOMORROW
"We went in with a solid mindset tonight. We kept putting pressure at the net and with our service, which helped us pull it out. For tomorrow, we will have to expect anything. TWU tends to change lineups so whoever we see across the net, we must stay aggressive and commit to being the hardest working team. We must stay relentless."
