THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team traveled up to Oklahoma City to face the Oklahoma Christian Eagles this afternoon in a match that end in a 0-0 draw at Eagle Soccer Field.
On a very windy afternoon in Oklahoma, the Patriots would once more go into the wind in the first half of the game. DBU would do a solid job of staying organized defensively, not allowing the quick attacking OCU side to many offensive threats. For the majority of the first half, the wind would see the Patriots pinned into their defensive side of the field. Freshman goalie
Kyle Renton would get another start for DBU and was called into action, making a solid save from a long-range OCU attempt as well as a quick reaction save off of a short-range header from an OCU corner.
In the second half, DBU was able to maintain more of the possession and see more action in their offensive third of the field. The Patriot attack of
Alan Acuna,
Jide Adesanya,
Mason Wallak,
Emmanuel Loni,
Marco Casulli, and
Ethan Carbajal were able to get the offense clicking and created some good opportunities going forward. Unfortunately, none of these chances would fall for DBU.
Â
The Patriots would head into overtime down a man as
Marco Casulli received his second yellow of the afternoon and was sent off towards the end of the second half. In overtime and down a man, every player on the field had to step up and be even better organizationally, and they did. The Patriots were able to shut down any OCU threat and get a couple of good looks of their own with the game eventually ending in a 0-0 draw.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Saturday marked the first time that the Patriots went into overtime this season. The boys from DBU showcased their stamina and grit by putting in a solid shift while playing a man down for about 30 minutes of the match. This side certainly has some tenacity to them.
Â
 - The backline for the Patriots is one that has 3 completely different personnel than the one that started the season for DBU. However, the four players of
Koli McCullough,
Payton Franklin,
Brock Bennison, and
Bruno Correa played really well today. On the outsides, McCullough and Correa did a solid job of staying close to the speedy wingers of OCU and allowing them little to no time on the ball.
Â
 -Â
Mason Wallak,
Matthew Hayes, and
Carlos Lara all played the entire game in the middle of the park for the Patriots. Hayes and Lara saw all of their action there, whereas Wallak had to shift outside to adjust to the change in formation once DBU took the red. All three players were solid defensively and on the ball today.

COACH CHIP DUTCHIK ON THE PATRIOTS PERFORMANCE
"Really good battle from the boys today! After going against and managing the wind in the first half we did well to get to the break tied. We really began settling in and seeing chances, then took the red. Our boys joined together and gutted it out to get a solid point on the road in overtime."
