THE RUNDOWN
No. 3 seed DBU fell to second-seeded West Texas A&M, 88-77 in the Lone Star Conference Semifinals Friday afternoon. WT's backcourt duo of Qua Grant and Joel Murray blasted the DBU defense for a combined 55 points as the Buffs win their 11th consecutive LSC playoff game.Â
The Buffs clinched the momentum immediately after tip-off, holding the Patriots scoreless for the first six minutes while jumping out to a crippling 22-2 lead. WT's Joel Murray (28 points, nine rebounds) and Qua Grant (27 points, 10 rebounds) bombarded the Patriots early and often. West Texas A&M would connect on numerous, well-timed three-point daggers that stopped DBU's offensive runs and keep the deficit in double-figures for the entirety of the contest.Â
DBU, however, would not go down quietly. Chandler Jacobs scored 18 of his team-high 24 points in the second half as the Patriots outscored the Buffs 44-37 in the final frame. Ricky Lujan shook off a slow start to finish with 14 points and a personal-best five rebounds. The trio of William Heather (11 points in 15 minutes), Carson Hughes (12 points, five assists), and Cameron Kahn (13 points on 6-9 shooting) also scored in double-figures as the Patriots' offense finished at 45 percent from the field.Â

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE SLOW START
"WT showed championship mettle today. They jumped on us from the start. We buried ourselves in a 20 point hole before we even got going. That's very disappointing, and it's on me.... Our youth and inexperience showed today. West Texas A&M has experience in these types of moments. Now we sit and wait to see our future during the NCAA selection show. I believe our body of work for the season will earn us another opportunity to respond and learn from this experience."Â
