Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 1 DBU Falls to Angelo State in LSC Championship Match

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 1 nationally ranked DBU Women's Soccer team hosted No. 12 Angelo State University on Tuesday night in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship in what was a tightly contested matchup that saw the Patriots fall in double overtime by a score of 1-0.

On a beautiful night on University Hill, the Patriots (12-1-1) and Belles would battle back and forth for the entire game in what was a defensive showcase. Neither side would see clear chances at the goal in the first 45 minutes with DBU seeing two shots and ASU seeing just one.

As the second half began, the game would begin to open up a bit and the Patriots would get some solid attacking looks early. Through their signature ball movement in and around the attacking third, DBU saw some chances come their way but were unable to convert early in the half. As the game went on, each side began to spread out a bit more and the game became much more open; however, neither side would be able to get on the board in the 90 minutes and the game would head into overtime.

Overtime was much the same story; the game was fairly open with each side throwing bodies forward trying to find the golden goal. In the 107th minute, Angelo State would see a one-on-one with Adrianna Schroeder and the Patriot keeper would make a tremendous save; however, the ball would fall to the foot of an ASU attacker who would net the golden goal for the Belles.

Overall, the ball wouldn't bounce the way of Michelle Lenard's side and the Patriots would fall 1-0.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
  - The Patriots have lost just one Lone Star Conference game since they joined. Since 2019, the DBU is 21-1-2 in LSC regular season and post season play. Tonight's loss snapped a 23-game unbeaten run in LSC competition.

 - DBU ended the season with 44 goals, averaging 3.14 goals per game, while tacking on 38 assists. The Patriots finish the spring 2021 season as one of the most productive teams in the conference and nation, led by true freshman Ashley Merrill who had an historic year with 17 goals and five assists in just 14 games.

 - Through the 14 games DBU played this year, the Patriots only allowed 10 goals, all while playing in one of the toughest conferences in NCAA soccer. With a backline that is all set to return for the fall in Summerlyn Heller, Gabrielle Heller, Blythe Obar, and Marit Auee, this team will look to build off of a great season as they turn around and head into a fall campaign.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
30 – Brittany Eccles wore No. 30 all four years as a Patriot. The Denton native will leave a lasting impact and legacy following her time in the program. Eccles was a tireless worker during her DBU career, netted eight goals and had three assists, and was player her teammates and coaching staff could always rely on.

6 – Patriot No. 6 Alondra Olmos leaves the program as one of the most creative players on the ball to step on Patriot Field. Olmos finishes her career with five goals and five assists and was a player who was always dangerous with the ball at her feet.

9 – Four-year leader Kaci Parks, the No. 9 for the Patriots leaves the team after an all-time career. The Plano native scored 19 goals through her four years and added 24 assists, with nine coming in her senior campaign. Parks was a great leader for this program and her impact on DBU soccer will last for years.
