Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Patriots Fall in San Antonio

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer traveled down to San Antonio for a Lone Star Conference matchup against No.16 St. Mary's University on Friday evening in what was a tough game for the Patriots, one they would lose 4-0.

On a nice Friday evening at Sigma Beta Chi Field, DBU would battle it out with St. Mary's for the majority of the first half. Freshman Kyle Renton would make several really good saves early on to keep the score tied at 0-0. With 37 seconds remaining in the first half, the Rattlers would find the back of the net to take a 1-0 score into the half.

In the second half, STMU would come out and find the net several more times in quick succession. DBU would look to maintain spells of possession, but just couldn't get anything going forward offensively. The two sides would see the game end with DBU falling by a score of 4-0.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
  - Although this evening was a tough one, DBU still stayed true to the type of team they are building. They stayed aggressive in their challenges, played with heart, and looked to keep possession and build the ball up the field when they had it.

 - Koli McCullough, Payton Franklin, Carlos Lara, and Mason Wallak have each started every game this year for DBU. These four players are solid pieces to the DNA puzzle that this side is building and will look to take their experience from this spring into the fall season.

 -  Eight players played the full 90 minutes of action for DBU today, showcasing the stamina that this team has and the determination that they have to come out and compete every single time they step on the field.

COACH CHIP DUTCHIK ON THE PATRIOTS PERFORMANCE
"Proud of the boys for their effort tonight, they gave it their all. I felt that we started the second half on the right leg then we just ran out of legs. Looking forward to Tuesday."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
1 – The Patriots have one more game left in the Spring 2021 season as they take on UT-Tyler in Tyler. DBU will look to end the season on a high note and continue to build the brand of soccer that they are identifying with.

7 – Kyle Renton made seven saves on the day for DBU. Renton came up big multiple times in the first half to keep the game close going into the break.

2 – Still running low on substitutions due to injuries, only two players came in off of the bench for the Patriots. Marco Casulli and Kyler Beshirs each came in from the sideline and help DBU up front. The Patriots will look to have some more players return in their game against UT-Tyler this coming week.

UP NEXT
DBU will take the short trip over to Tyler to take on the UT-Tyler Patriots. The match will be the last of the spring season for DBU and will take place on Tuesday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m.
