THE RUNDOWN
DBU took the first game of Saturday's double header from No. 19 Indiana State by the score of 6-5. The Patriots (21-9) rode a pair of three run blasts from River Town and Austin Bell to the victory and remain undefeated in Valley play.
The Patriots sent Kyle Rich to the mound to oppose Connor Cline for the Sycamores in the seven inning game. Rich delivered a great performance, doing exactly what he needed to from the hill to give DBU a chance to win the game. Rich would go five innings plus, allowing just two runs on four hits.
At the plate, DBU benefitted from another three-run blast from River Town. It came in the bottom of the third inning after Andrew Benefield and Ryan Wrobleski got on base. Austin Bell would add his own three-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning, delivering a first pitch slider into the parking lot behind the scoreboard. With the home run, Bell set a new career high with five long balls on the season.
Indiana State climbed back into the game, however, on two home runs in the top of the sixth inning. They would score one more in the top of the seventh, but Luke Trahan came on to slam the door out of the pen and DBU won their 21st game of the year.
