Patriots Drop Series Finale to No. 19 Sycamores, 7-5

THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots fell in the series finale to No. 19 Indiana State, 7-5, after giving up five runs in the ninth inning. Despite the loss, DBU (22-10) still took the series, three games to one, and hold first place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Patriots opened the scoring in the second inning, scoring twice behind a Christian Boulware RBI double and a George Specht RBI single. DBU owned the lead until the middle frames when the Sycamores scored a run in back-to-back innings. In the fifth, a wild pitch plated the first ISU run, while they relied on a sacrifice fly to tie the game in the sixth.

Andrew Benefield would break the tie in the bottom of the seventh, blasting his first hit of the weekend over the left field wall. DBU would take the 3-2 lead into the ninth, but the wheels would fall off there. The Patriots gave up five runs on four hits. Cole Moore belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, but the comeback fell shy and DBU dropped the fourth game of the series, 7-5.
