THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots finished their 2021 home schedule with a 16-6 win over Bradley (18-19, 10-9 MVC) on Saturday night. Unlike the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, DBU (31-13, 16-4 MVC) quickly took charge with a six-run offensive blast in the second inning to take the second and final lead change of the evening. With the win, the Patriots tie the season series versus the Braves at 2-2.
Game four began with an ominous solo blast from Bradley early in the first inning. However, it would not phase the Patriots as Austin Bell answered with a shot of his own in the bottom of the frame.
The second would feature big flys from Cole Moore and Ryan Wrobleski and a sac fly from Jackson Glenn. A run off an error for Bell and a score by River Town off a wild pitch would cripple the Braves at 7-3. Kyle Rich would then keep the Bradley bats quiet until a two-run homer from Dan Bolt narrowed the lead to 7-5.
The Patriots duplicated their second inning success in the sixth. DBU tacked on six additional runs behind walks, RBI singles, and stolen bases to cycle through the batting order and bury the Braves in a 14-5 hole. From there, RBI's from Cole Moore and Austin Bell would finish off the fireworks as Chandler Arnold limited Bradley to one run in four innings of work.Â
