Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 7 Patriots Knock off No. 15 Bison, 5-0

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 7 DBU Women's Soccer team shut out No. 15 OBU by a score of 5-0 Saturday night on Patriot Field. DBU (2-0-0) put together a commanding performance against Oklahoma Baptist (0-2-0), making camp in the Bison's defensive third for most of the match.

Ashley Merrill headed in her first goal of the season by connecting with Summerlyn Heller in a 13th minute corner kick. The midfield would continue its fast start as Melissa Jones found the back of the net off a corner kick from Gabrielle Heller just five minutes later. On the defensive side of the pitch, the Patriots kept the Bison behind the center stripe for most of the game as OBU did not record a single shot until the second half.

Abigail Olmos would tack on the next two goals as DBU began to pull away. The senior midfielder found the corner of the net off an assist by Melanie Castelan in the 27th minute. Following halftime, Olmos would score on the other side of the pitch off a pass from Madison Parks. The final goal of the evening would arrive off a Gabrielle Heller corner kick.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- DBU opens the season with back-to-back wins against top 15 opponents.
- Summerlyn Heller made her 60th consecutive start against the Bison. Andrea Hutchins (2008-2012) holds the program record with 91 matches played.
-Abigail Olmos is the first Patriot with a multi-goal performance this season.

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE WIN
"We were missing a few players tonight so we knew it would be important to control the flow of the game. We are an attacking team. We want to attack, but we knew we couldn't do that for a full 90 minutes. After going up a few goals, we tried to slow down the pace to save our legs. I thought the girls did a good job of that. We had a lot of players come off the bench and make a big impact on the game... We needed them to play well and they did. They created assists and made goals and I don't know how we make it through this game without them."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
66 – The Patriots held possession for 66 percent of the contest.
2- Heller made a tremendous impact off a pair of corner kicks. Assisting Melissa Jones on one before finding the back of the net herself on another corner kick in the closing minutes.
11
– DBU has outscored Oklahoma Baptist 11-0 over their last two contests.
