Men's Basketball Rebounds with 82-71 Win Over St. Mary's

THE RUNDOWN
DBU rebounded with an 82-71 win over St. Mary's Thursday night at the Burg Center. A season-high 23 assists helped the Patriots (7-6, 1-1 LSC) carve up the Rattlers (3-7, 0-1) and earn their first win in conference play. Julian Miranda served a game-high 11 assists for a DBU offense that shot 52% from the floor to outlast a 19 point second-half outburst from STMU's Caleb Jordan.

A field goal on the opening possession gave St. Mary's a 2-0 lead. It would be their last as Miranda buried a step-back three and served a no-look pass to Carson Hughes to fuel a 10-2 DBU run. The Patriots looked sharp and comfortable against the Rattlers' defense, moving well without the ball to score four in double figures. DBU's lead swelled as high as 19 points before St. Mary's found its rhythm.

STMU's Caleb Jordan would drain all five of his threes in the second half for a game-high 19 points. Production from teammates Ryan Leonard (11 points) and Mamady Djikine (season-high 16 points) cut the deficit to 79-71 with 20 seconds remaining. But the Patriots did enough on both sides of the ball to ensure victory. Austin Garner (15 points, 4-for-7 from three) paced the Patriots in scoring. Senior Carson Hughes added 13 points of his own along with five assists and a pair of steals. Finally, Cameron Kahn and Jalen White combined for 22 points in an 11-point win that got everybody involved.
