Patriot Basketball and members of the DBU staff departed Dallas on Friday evening, September 30, en route to Denia, Spain, to take part in the department's first Global Sports Missions Initiative (GSMI) trip since 2019. This trip marks the second time Patriot Basketball has served in Denia, Spain, with their first trip in 2017. 
 
DBU Basketball and accompanying staff members arrived Saturday evening to Denia (local time) after connecting flights through Madrid and Valencia. After a long day of travel and a late night, the Patriots had the privilege of worshiping alongside the members and locals at Alfa y Omega Christian Church on Sunday morning. 
 

"Being back in Denia brings back so many great memories," shared Head Coach Blake Flickner. "It was so fun seeing familiar faces, and being able to worship with other believers on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean this morning. I am really excited about and looking forward to the week here at Alfa y Omega. Interacting with the kids is such a blessing and memorable experience. I believe God is going to do something special this week."
 
 
The Patriots will spend their week in Denia serving at Alfa y Omega, a long-time ministry partner of DBU. Age ranges at Alfa y Omega range from just a few months old through the tenth grade. The student-athletes will have the great opportunity to teach Bible lessons and lead activities for different age groups throughout the week.
 
In addition to serving at Alfa y Omega, Patriot Basketball will lead a basketball clinic Monday afternoon in Denia, Spain, and will play three different competitive games against teams within a few hours of Denia throughout the week.
