THE RUNDOWN
DBU (1-3) suffered its third loss of the season at the hands of Colorado Mesa (2-0) in Grand Junction, Colorado, on Saturday. Patriot shots alluded the hoop as the team shot below 40% from the floor.Â
Â
After almost three minutes of scoreless basketball, Cameron Kahn broke the drought with a layup off a Ricky Lujan steal. The Mavericks responded with a quick 12-2 run to pull ahead. Colorado Mesa extended the advantage to nine with a little over three minutes left in the half, but William Heather converted a pair of jump shots to make it a four-point game going into intermission.
Â
DBU looked to chip away at the deficit and managed to tie the game at 43 on a pair of Isaac Bullard free throws. The Mavericks answered with a three-pointer and prevented the Patriots from gaining an edge for the rest of the game.
