THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots (4-3) snuck away with their second straight three-point win on Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. DBU claimed the victory despite possessing the lead for just over 10 minutes opposite Henderson State's (2-3) 22:27.
Â
Never more than a two-possession difference, the first half was as tight as they come. It was looking to be a high-scoring affair early on, as both teams were tied at 21 less than 9 minutes into the game.
Micaiah Abii's 11 points and three 3-pointers kept the Patriots in the game despite a team field goal percentage of 40%, while the Reddies shot 56% from the field. Â
Â
Henderson State took a 49-43 advantage to start the second period and maintained it until a
Cameron Kahn layup put DBU up, 58-57, with just over 5 minutes left in the game. At 3:44, Kahn played hero, swatting away the pass of a potential Reddie alley-oop to keep the game tied at 61. Tension filled the air for the closing minutes of the game, but
Carson Hughes executed three of five free throws to push the Patriots ahead and seal the 66-63 win.

BLAKE FLICKNER ON WINNING A TIGHT GAME ON THE ROAD
"It's always hard to win on the road, especially against tough, well coached teams like Henderson. I'm so proud of how we hung in there and made the stops and plays down the stretch. Henderson is really good at winning the possession game (off rebounds and turnovers), and we found a way to win both those categories. Really gritty win, and something we can hopefully build on as we head into conference play."
