THE RUNDOWN
A pull-up jumper from Ricky Lujan with seven seconds remaining lifted DBU to a 68-67 win over Western New Mexico Saturday at the Burg Center. A season-high 20 points from Lujan and a double-double from Jalen White (10 points, 12 rebounds) helped the Patriots shoot 60% from the floor in the second half to come back and win a game they trailed by 16.Â
DBU (16-8, 9-3 LSC) entered the locker room on the wrong side of a 43-30 deficit against a WNMU squad (10-10, 3-7 LSC) that dominated the glass (21 first-half rebounds) and shot 54% (6-of-11) from deep. But the Patriots returned to the floor a more physical and focused team to outscore the Mustangs 38-24 in the final frame.
Jalen White showed his strength on both ends of the court. He opened the second half with a pair of and-1's and remained a force for the rest of the game to finish with a career-high four blocks. Cameron Kahn (eight points, four assists) also found his rhythm. The sophomore scored all his points in the second half, and hurt the Mustangs with his passing from the paint. The Burg thundered back to life when White dunked over a pair of Mustangs with 11:50 remaining to give the Patriots the momentum for the rest of the game.Â
Austin Garner scored 13 points on a mixture of inside and outside shots, and Julian Miranda (10 points) was the fourth Patriot to reach double figures. The Mustangs threatened to steal back the win after the late-game bucket from Lujan. WNMU's Joshuwan Johnson flew to the basket out of the final timeout but couldn't finish the layup as time expired.Â

COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WINÂ
"I thought a lot of our comeback was due to effort. They [WNMU] were outhustling us and beating us to 50/50 balls. But I thought our guys responded well in the second half. We took some charges and fought more for rebounds and loose balls. Offensively, we got the ball moving a lot better, and Ricky really stepped up.Â
