THE RUNDOWN
Ricky Lujan (23 points) and Jalen White (18 points, 7 rebounds) turned in season-high performances, but DBU fell to TAMUK 74-70 Saturday afternoon in Kingsville. The Javelinas pushed the Patriots off the glass and used 47 rebounds and 19 second-chance points to win their third straight game.Â
Ricky Lujan (7-of-7 FT) cashed in on a one-and-one to tie things up at 70 with 1:23 remaining. However, an offensive board from TAMUK's Dayante McClellan with 18 seconds to play forced the Patriots to foul and send the Javelinas to the charity stripe. DBU shot 55% from the floor in the opening frame, and Jalen White (4-of-6 3P) drilled three first-half triples to give DBU a 37-34 lead at the break.Â
The Patriots made their first five shots to open the second half and expand their lead to 12. But TAMUK closed the gap with an 11-0 run of its own. The Javelinas found 38 points off the bench, and eight offensive rebounds in the second half helped them maintain possession in the game's final moments. Cameron Kahn finished with 11 points, and Julian Miranda added 10 of his own along with a season-high six rebounds.Â

COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE GAMEÂ
"Our guys fought hard today, and there were a lot of positives, but it's not hard to see where we came up short. We were outrebounded 47-21, and gave up 19 offensive rebounds. That was clearly what did us in. Jules [Julian Miranda] and Jalen provided some rebounding for us, but we needed more from other guys. Give TAMUK credit for the relentless way they crashed, but we needed to find a way to finish more plays."
