THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots stifled the Sooners in a 10-1 win Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark. After crushing Illinois State with 13 runs and 18 hits on Sunday, DBU continued its offensive surge with 16 hits in a performance that got everybody involved. With the win, DBU (27-17, 6-6) splits the season series with Oklahoma and takes its sixth midweek matchup in the last seven tries.
Peyton Sherlin looked sharp in his first start since 2019. The lefty struck out four and walked no one to earn the win in a predetermined start.
Kyle Rich,
Bubba Hall, and
Kyle Amendt headlined a bullpen that surrendered just four hits and a single run.Â
The DBU offense attacked first for the second time in as many games. In the first inning,
Miguel Santos and
Cole Moore reached on walks before coming home on an RBI double from
Andrew Benefield that tightroped down the left-field line.Â
After a scoreless second, the Patriots put up another crooked number in the third.
Miguel Santos opened the frame with a leadoff home run that was crushed over the left-field wall. After a
Jace Grady double,
Cole Moore ran up the score with an RBI single into right field. A
Blayne Jones single was then bobbled by the Sooners' left fielder, and
Luke Heefner scored to make it a 4-0 ballgame.Â
DBU would then add runs in back-to-back innings.
Cole Moore drove in another run on a single up the middle in the fourth frame, and a
Nate Rombach double was followed by a sacrifice fly that extended the Patriot lead out to 7-0.
Oklahoma (27-16, 9-6) scratched for a run in the seventh inning on back-to-back base hits, but DBU got the run back in a gritty eighth inning. Down to the final out of the inning,
Luke Heefner battled through a 12 pitch at-bat for a single into left field. His efforts were rewarded as
Nate Rombach drew a walk, Nate Humphreys singled to first, and
Miguel Santos delivered an infield single. All three Patriots would score in a back-breaking inning for the Sooners.Â
Kyle Amendt took the baseball from
Bubba Hall in the ninth inning. The sophomore went three up, three down and finished the game on a curveball that froze the final out.Â

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON PEYTON SHERLINÂ
"Peyton did a fantastic job for us. It was great to see him do that in a start and go four innings. He set the tone for us. He's got great stuff, and he's a really tough guy to hit when he pounds the strike zone."
