2021 IN REVIEW
The DBU Women's Soccer team rewrote the record book during the 2021 campaign. The Patriots went 20-4 and advanced to the first NCAA Semifinals in program history. The team set program records in wins (20) and goals scored (69) while finishing top 10 in the country in assists per game (2.38), points per match (8.12), and scoring offense (2.88).
A league-high nine Patriots earned a spot on All-LSC Teams, and three were named All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches.
COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
No. 3 DBU opens the 2022 season against UC Colorado Springs Thursday night at Mountain Lion Stadium. New head coach Marcus Wood looks to begin his Patriot journey with a statement win over the No. 8 Mountain Lions. The two squads clashed in the Sweet 16 round of last season's NCAA Tournament and now meet for the third time in two years.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
-DBU starts the year ranked No. 3 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The preseason ranking is the highest in program history.
-The Patriots are picked to win the Lone Star Conference, receiving 24 of the 35 first place votes in the LSC Preseason Poll.
-Marcus Wood arrives on University Hill from Hardin-Simmons, where he guided HSU to 19 NCAA Tournaments and a national title in 2010.
-Wood fills out his coaching staff with the addition of Anna Jobe. Jobe served last season as the Director of Operations for DBU Men's Soccer and will now join Cory Marr on the assistant coaching staff.
-DBU returns 18 lettermen from last year, including All-Conference selections Michelle Gonzalez (Marta) and Rachel Allen.
-The Patriots bring in a heap of new talent to help bolster the roster. Division I transfers Haley Roberson and Karlee Torisk headline a signing class that also features 10 true freshmen.
SCOUTING UCCS
-J.B. Belzer begins his third season at the helm of the Mountain Lions. In his first full season of work, Belzer guided UCCS to a 19-4 record and the second Sweet 16 appearance in program history.
-The Mountain Lions return sophomore forward Jadyn Ledoux, who ranked second on the team in goals scored (8) and points (21) last season.
-UCCS also brings back veteran goalkeeper Alexis Walker. Walker posted an 8-1 record with five shutouts for a UCCS defense that surrendered under a goal per game (0.96) in 2021.
-UC Colorado Springs faces DBU without the services of Tarah Patterson. The star midfielder graduated after an electric 2021 season where she racked up nine goals and 13 assists.
SERIES HISTORY
DBU holds a 2-1-1 edge in the series history. The last time they met, DBU earned a 1-0 win on a goal from Delaney Schmidt in the 81st minute to reach the Elite 8.
