Bass Fishing Opens Season With Strong Showing

The Patriot bass team had another productive stretch of tournaments that saw several top finishes and helped boost their ranking in the national points standings.

The Patriots kicked things off at a Major League Fishing event on Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Ty Manterola and Bryan Tower placed 15th in the event, while teammates Braxon Hightower and Luke Wenger finished in 23rd place. The solid showings qualified Hightower and Wenger to compete in the 2024 MLF National Championship.

Next up was the Association of Collegiate Anglers' Big Bass Bash on Kentucky Lake. Luke Wenger took 33rd place individually, with Braxon Hightower right behind him in 54th.

The Patriots kept the momentum going at a Murray Bass Club tournament on Lake Texoma. Layton Brown and Parker Brown caught limits good enough to earn a fifth place finish.

The team traveled to Possum Kingdom Lake for the first Collegiate Bass Trail of Texas event of the season. Jacob Witkowski and Braxon Hightower had another strong performance, coming in eighth place overall.

These results contributed greatly to the Patriots' national ranking. Their consistent top performances have lifted their position to 18th in the Association of Collegiate Anglers' School of the Year points standings.

Looking to continue their ascent up the leaderboard, the Patriots will be competing at an ACA championship event on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Arkansas. The tournament offers double points, presenting an opportunity to take an even bigger step forward in the national title race.

With one more event remaining in the fall season, the DBU bass fishing team looks poised to keep making waves across the collegiate fishing landscape. The Patriots will be battling for another high finish and a chance to boost their school's profile as one of the best in the country.
