No. 25 DBU To Challenge St. Mary's in Crucial LSC Match

No. 25 DBU Women's Soccer hosts St. Mary's in game nine of conference play.  

LAST TIME OUT 

The Patriots won 3-1 over Midwestern State last Saturday at Stang Park. DBU scored two goals in the first half and one in the second half to earn their eighth win.  

The Patriots scored first in the 34th minute when Taylor Tufts received a pass from Haley Roberson and put it in the back of the net. Six minutes later, Joeli Benson's pass to Sophia Schrock resulted in the second goal for DBU. The Patriots led 2-0 at halftime.  

In the second half, MSU scored first in the 49th minute when Cassidy Savoy's shot found the back of the goal. DBU responded with a third goal by Parker Coe in the 52nd minute. The Patriots earned the 3-1 win over the Mustangs.  

PATRIOT STORYLINES  

  • The Patriots are within two points of Texas Woman's, which leads the Lone Star Conference standings. Three points from their win over MSU totaled them to 18 points. DBU is tied with TWU for winning percentage, both totaling .833.  

  • The Patriots are the only team in the conference with no losses this season. There are only four more games left in the regular season.  

  • Taylor Tufts continues to showcase her talent, as seen in her rankings and broken records. Tufts has been ranked first in the nation in assists for over a month. She also leads the nation in total goals this season (13).  

  • Two players have exceeded 1000 minutes this season: Parker Coe (1038) and Rachel Allen (1014).  

  • Sophia Schrock leads the team in game-winning goals, totaling three this season.  


SCOUTING ST. MARY'S 

  • St. Mary's sits one point ahead of DBU in the Lone Star Conference standings. They are one point away from catching Texas Woman's, who leads the league. 

  •  Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Difronzo is ranked eighth in the nation in goalie minutes played this season (1350).  

  • Shelby Paniagua and Sydney Varela lead the Rattler's offense, each contributing seven goals this season. Paniagua also leads St. Mary's in assists, totaling seven this season.  

  • Sydney Varela has taken a team-high 45 shots on the season. The Rattlers are third in the conference in shots taken, totaling 224.  

  • 11 players on the STMU roster have accounted for 30 goals this season.  


ALL-TIME SERIES  

DBU and St. Mary's have competed against each other since 2005. The Patriot's record against the Rattlers is 22-8-1. DBU has won the last 19 consecutive games, and STMU has not defeated the Patriots since 2010.
