No. 5 DBU Diminishes East Central in 104-75 Win

THE RUNDOWN
No. 5 DBU returned to form on both ends of the court in a 104-75 win over East Central at the Burg Center on Wednesday. The Patriots shot 55 percent from the field and connected on a season-high 17 three-pointers to improve to 4-0 on the season.

DBU couldn't paint a better start to a game as they went on a 10-0 run right out of the gate in the first two minutes of the game and dictated the pace of play. ECU's leading scorer, Keyon Thomas, was a Patriot point of focus, as the senior guard was held without a shot seven minutes into the game.

The Patriots continued to pull away in the first half as Ricky Lujan connected on his 100th career 3-pointer, giving the Patriots a 42-28 lead. The Patriots ended the half with a 14-point lead, not allowing the Tigers to tie pull within striking range going into the break.

Cameron Kahn started the second half relentlessly, breaking through with a new season high of 27 points. Excellent ball distribution throughout the half led to 17 assists in the final 20 minutes. DBU promptly pulled away at the 4:22 mark, creating a 30-point advantage, their largest lead of the game before closing out a 104-75 victory.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- DBU began 4-0 to start a season for the first time since the start of the 2020-21 season.
- Austin Garner passed Julian Miranda for the seventh-most three-point field goals in program history.
- Cameron Kahn's 27 points were one shy of a career-high.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
30 - DBU scored 30 points off of ECU turnovers.
8 - Eight Patriots made three-pointers.
17 - DBU's 17 three-pointers were the most by the Patriots in a game since December 12, 2020, versus Angelo State.

BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE PATRIOTS' WIN
"There's not much to be too upset about this game; it always looks good when the shots go in. We made many shots today, which makes everything look better. There are still some things to learn from, but a lot of really good things today. We've got a lot of excellent shooters, and good players make you look good as a coach. When the balls go in, it's a lot of fun, and it was fun today. Cameron Kahn has been a beast and is hard to guard. He was really good on the glass and did a great job finishing. We have some time off coming up here, but Midwestern is also undefeated, and when you get into LSC play, everything ramps up. Our conference is arguably one of the best leagues in the country, so we have to be ready. We are 0-0, and it's a fresh new start to the season."
