DBU went on an early 10-0 run capped off by a pair of Ta'Jay Dunlap free throws to give DBU a 25-9 lead with 11:41 left to play in the first half. Mississippi College responded with a 6-0 run, closing the point deficit to five. A Cameron Kahn layup ignited a DBU 9-0 run, bringing their lead back to double digits. In a game of first-half runs, the Choctaws bounced back with a 9-0 run, but the Patriots would eventually take a 46-37 lead into the locker room.

The Patriots extended their lead back to double digits to begin the second half when Ricky Lujan drained a jumper to put DBU up 48-37. DBU pushed their lead to as many as 23 when they went on an 11-0 run to go up 67-44. The Patriots persisted with their unwavering defensive effort, not allowing a Choctaw field goal over the next three minutes.
