In a win-and-in situation for the postseason, the DBU men's basketball team (17-13, 12-10 LSC) defeated UT Tyler (9-17, 5-17 LSC) on the road in a high-scoring affair. Juniors
Cameron Kahn and
Austin Garner paved the way with individual season-best performances in the scoring department, tallying 29 and 21 points respectively.

DBU showed a sense of urgency immediately, starting the game on an 8-0 stint and maintaining a minimum 5-point lead for the first 10 minutes of action.

Down, 22-15, the UT Tyler Patriots crept their way to a tie on the back of a 11-4 stretch.

DBU jumped back to an eight-point advantage but saw it narrowed to four when Terrell Wilson converted a three-pointer for UT Tyler in the closing moments of the opening frame.

The second half played much like the first, with DBU retaining a single-digit edge but failing to pull a significant distance away from the home team.

Leading by 3,
Ta'Jay Dunlap made a free throw with 8:16 on the clock that would start an 18-3 run for DBU, giving his team a 19-point cushion, 85-66 with less than 4 minutes to play.

Austin Garner made all but one of his shots in the second half, putting up 18 points and propelling DBU to the crucial win.

The Patriots make the trek to Frisco, Texas, to play in the Lone Star Conference 2023 Basketball Championship tournament. They will play in the quarterfinals on Friday, March 3, at the Comerica Center.
