THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Tennis team dropped a pair of close matches this week at the Arlington Tennis Center, falling 4-3 to Missouri Western State on Thursday before suffering a 4-3 loss to No. 17 St. Mary's. With the pair of losses, the Lady Patriots fall to 14-4 overall and are 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play after their loss to the Rattlers.
DBU opened against Missouri Western by dropping the doubles point despite the team of
Angela Charles-Alfred and
Jenna Payne winning 6-0 at the line 1 position. Charles-Alfred also claimed victory at line 1 singles, earning a hard-fought point for DBU after pulling out a victory in three sets over MWSU's Anya Chavez.
Leonie Schondelmaier (line 3) and
Sofia Teran (lone 6) also won their matches in singles action.
On Saturday in LSC play versus 17th-ranked St. Mary's, the team of Charles-Alfred and Payne once again won the point in line 1 doubles with a 6-4 victory over the No. 9 ranked doubles team in the nation in Ashley Penshorn and Kyndall Quiroz. Despite the win, DBU would drop the other two matches in doubles action to lose the point to the Rattlers. In singles play, Charles-Alfred continued her dominance with a win in straight sets over Penshorn who entered this week ranked No. 13 nationally in singles.
Leonie Schondelmaier (line 3) and
Sofia Teran (lone 6) also picked up wins to finish out their week with 2-0 records in singles action.

UP NEXT
The Lady Patriots will face three Lone Star Conference opponents on the road next week. On Tuesday, DBU travels to Tyler, Texas, to face UT Tyler, followed by a Friday match at UAFS in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Lady Patriots three-game road trip concludes on Saturday in Lawton, Oklahoma, versus No. 15 Cameron.
