DBU's Charles-Alfred Named LSC Newcomer of the Year

DBU's Angela Charles-Alfred was named the Lone Star Conference Women's Tennis Newcomer of the Year on Wednesday. The award was voted on by the league's nine head coaches. Charles-Alfred was also tabbed a First Team All-LSC selection in both singles and doubles.

A graduate student transfer from Xavier University of Louisiana, Charles-Alfred has shined in her lone season at DBU beginning in the fall when she became the first Lady Patriot to win a match at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia. The product from Saint-Pierre, Martinique, has posted a 10-6 record in line 1 singles play this year and is currently ranked the nation's No. 30 player. In doubles play, Charles-Alfred has teamed up with Jenna Payne to post an 18-3 record at the line 1 position and the tandem is currently on a seven-game win streak heading into this week's LSC Championships.

With today's announcement Charles-Alfred becomes the first player in program history to be named the LSC Newcomer of the Year.
