THE RUNDOWN
No. 18 DBU (30-9, 14-3) set a new school record with their 13th consecutive win following an 11-3 victory over Louisiana Tech (20-20, 9-8) in game one of a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots used a four-RBI day from
Grant Jay and held the Bulldogs to just two hits as DBU won their 13th straight and clinched the series over Louisiana Tech.
The scoring for the Patriots started in the bottom of the second when
Kodie Kolden reached base on a two-out single.
Tom Poole followed with an RBI double into the right-center field gap. One batter later,
Grant Jay traded spots with Poole when he lashed a double to left to give DBU a 2-0 advantage.
Louisiana Tech would tie the game in the fourth when a two-base error led to two runs.
Braxton Bragg escaped the jam with runners at first and second, striking out Walker Burchfield and Will Safford to get out of the inning.
In the home-half of the fourth, a lead-off walk to
Nathan Humphreys followed by a Kolden bunt single and a walk to Poole set the stage for
Grant Jay. With the bases loaded, Jay laced a double to the right-center alley, scoring two runs. Two batters later,
Jace Grady lined a double inside the first base bag to score two more and hand the Patriots a 6-2 lead.
DBU would add single runs in the fifth and sixth innings headlined by a Grady solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the sixth.
The Bulldogs and Patriots traded runs in the seventh and DBU added two more runs in the eighth for good measure to go up 11-3.
In the ninth,
Matt Bollenbacher retired the side in order to close out the game.
