THE RUNDOWN
No. 17 DBU (31-10) suffered its first loss since March 31 with an 8-5 loss to TCU (23-18) at Lupton Stadium on Tuesday. A 5-3 Patriot lead was spoiled by a five-run eighth inning by the Horned Frogs.
Â
The Patriots struck first on a
Miguel Santos RBI double in the top of the second to score
Ethan Mann, who walked to lead off the inning.
Â
In the next frame,
Jace Grady reached base on a throwing error and stole second base. He then crossed the plate on a wild pitch and throwing error for the game's second run.
Â
Brayden Taylor knotted the game in the home half of the second on a two-run shot to right field, but DBU answered with two run-scoring groundouts in the fourth.
Â
Ethan Mann stretched the margin to three on a solo shot in the fifth to right-center, and the Horned Frogs responded with a run of their own to minimize the difference, 5-3.
Â
A trio of TCU pitchers kept the Patriots off the board for the remainder of the game, and a five-run bottom of the eighth, including a grand slam off the bat of Karson Bowen, put the Horned Frogs out of reach of the Patriots for an 8-5 final.
