Johnson Named to USA Collegiate Baseball National Team Roster

DBU Baseball's Ryan Johnson has been selected to the USA Collegiate Baseball National Team roster, as announced by USA Baseball on Thursday. Johnson, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Red Oak, Texas, is one of 31 players to be selected to represent Team USA and joins Burl Carraway as just the second player in program history to earn a roster spot on the Collegiate National Team. The final squad was named after the completion of the 2023 Collegiate National Team Training Camp, a four-game intrasquad series played at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

In his sophomore season, Johnson was named a Third Team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and also garnered First Team All-Conference USA honors. In 16 outings, Johnson posted an 8-4 record with a 4.43 ERA and his 116 strikeouts were second-most in a single season in DBU's Division I era dating back to 2004.

The 20th USA vs. Chinese Taipei International Friendship Series is set for June 30-July 4, with games at the National Training Complex, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, and Segra Stadium in Fayetteville. The National Training Complex will host the opening three games of the 44th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series July 7-9, while games four and five of the series will be played at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 11 and 12.
