Box Score THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (3-0) logged their third consecutive sweep to start the 2023 season with a victory over Montevallo (0-3) at the Patriot Classic in Tyler, Texas. DBU's three wins tie the program's best start to the season (2010).
Â
The Lady Patriots came out with guns blazing in the first set. DBU took a 10-5 lead before scoring 11 consecutive points, a run broken up only by Montevallo's two timeouts.
Kennedi Sutter finished the frame with her second ace of the set to put the Lady Patriots up, 1-0.
Â
The Falcons looked to rebound from a mediocre first set and kept the score tight in the early goings of the second. Ahead, 9-8, DBU pieced together nine straight points as Sutter executed three kills and a block to go along with a pair of blocks from
Lindsey Otero and
Price Reeves and an ace from
Lexi Lambert. The momentum flowed to the end of the set, and the Lady Patriots gave themselves a chance at a sweep entering the third frame.
Â
DBU swiped the first three points of set three, but Montevallo answered by taking a 10-8 lead. Favored swayed back to the Lady Patriots when Sutter,
Delaney Fuller, and Reeves recorded three straight kills to move DBU in front, 11-10. The Falcons forced a tie on three more occasions, but the Lady Patriots sealed the deal on the back of 16 combined kills courtesy of Fuller, Reeves, and Sutter.
