COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
DBU traveled to Lubbock Wednesday to face Lubbock Christian in a match that ended in a 0-0 draw at the LCU Soccer and Track Facility. This is the second scoreless draw between DBU and LCU since September 27, 2023. Patrick Banich recorded his first shutout match of the season with 4 saves tonight.
Hunter Dierlam started the half with an early shot on goal after a corner kick but the attempt was deflected by an LCU player before it could reach the box. A foul on
Bruno Correa would award the Chaps a free kick outside the corner of the box. The shot would look like it would be an early goal for LCU but the Patriot's defense was there to clear it away in the 9th minute.
Patrick Banich notches his first save of the night after an attempt by LCU's Manu Nunez makes it past the defense at 12:15. In the 24th minute of the match
Evan Pustejovsky was close to getting DBU on the board with a quick shot from the side of the box but Connor Pettigrew was quicker as the shot was saved. With two minutes left in the half, it looked like LCU would be the first to get on the board, however, Banich was there to not let that happen ending the half scoreless on both sides.
The second began with a slow start as there wasn't a shot attempt from either team until the 52nd minute by LCU forcing Banich to come out of the box for his second save of the night. Not a minute later Banich would notch his third save of the night after a quick attempt from the Chaps offense. The quiet start to the second half came to an end in the 63rd minute as LCU was close to getting the first goal of the match on the board but it was deflected by Banich but the shot wasn't cleared forcing the Patriot's defense to force the shot out the box. The Patriots notched their first shot on goal after Leo Larson attempted to open scoring with a shot to the bottom left of the net but it was goalie saved. The match came to an end with the score reading nil-nil as neither team could get on the board.
