No. 1 DBU Finishes Fourth at West Regional Preview, Grant Places Fifth

No. 1 DBU finished fourth at the 2024 West Regional Preview hosted by West Texas A&M. The tournament, featuring 16 teams, was played at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, TX. Freshman Gracie Grant earned the highest finish for the Patriots, placing fifth in just her second career start.  

DBU began the day at 18-over with 18 holes to play. Gracie Grant led the way with an even-par finish thanks to four birdies on her back nine. She combined for a 54-hole score of 217, jumping six places to finish fifth. Ella Cheek finished next for the Patriots, carding a 75 in the third round to place 8th at seven-over. Senior Eryn Garza carded a seven-over 78 to finish in 23rd place overall, and Madison Ude and Jordan Karrh placed 31st at 16-over.  

No. 4 West Texas A&M won the tournament by 11 strokes, posting the tournament-best round of five over in the second round. They followed with a final round of six-over to advance one placement from yesterday and earn the title. No. 6 St. Mary's placed second at 33-over, followed by No. 12 California State- San Marcos's 36-over third-place finish. DBU placed fourth, and California State-Los Angeles rounded out the top five. Individually, Gam Songprasert of WTAMU won the tournament by two, combining for a 54-hole total of three under. She was one of two players to finish the tournament under par, including second-place finisher Madison Murr of Cal State San Marcos.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW 

  • Four of the teams that finished in the top-five of the tournament are ranked top-12 of the nation. The 16-team tournament featured a total of seven top-25 nationally-ranked teams.  

  • Gracie Grant has achieved top-five finishes in her last two events. She placed third at the DBU Classic, her collegiate debut, and added this fifth-place finish to her accomplishments.

"It's been a disappointing week for sure. To keep compounding mistake after mistake is just inexcusable. We need players to step up this coming week because, besides Gracie, nobody else played to the level you would expect." 

UP NEXT 
After a week off, DBU will compete at the National Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. Play will begin on October 7.
