COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
The DBU Men's Soccer suffered a 1-0 loss to St. Mary's on Wednesday night at Patriot Soccer Field. The game remained scoreless through the first 28 minutes before a goal by STMU's Lewis Nohar gave the Rattlers the lead. Despite the many Patriot attempts, none found the back of the net.
Patriots Field saw a tight battle between DBU and St. Mary's throughout the first half as the pitch entered the 15th minute scoreless with only one shot on goal that came in the 12th minute from the Rattlers. However, the Patriots conceded in the 28th minute as St. Mary's opened the scoring with a top right corner goal by Lewis Nohar. Evan Lupo attempted an equalizer in the 41st minute with a header but was thwarted by the Rattlers goalie Johnny Thurbin. The half ended 1-0 in St. Mary's favor.
DBU entered the second half with a close opportunity to equalize as Evan Pustejovsky was able to get a touch over to
Avery Brazzell as Thurbin was tripped. However, Brazzell was not able to get a good look at it as St. Mary's was there to deflect the attempt. The Patriots were able to keep the ball in their attacking half but weren't able to complete a goal. Pustejovsky looked to get the Patriots on the board with a right footed rocket towards the net but the shot was deflected in the 88th minute. The Rattler's defense held the Patriots off until the clock ran out, resulting in a 1-0 loss for DBU.
