No. 9 DBU Set For Quarterfinal Clash with Oklahoma Christian

No. 9 DBU hosts the Lone Star Conference Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday evening against Oklahoma Christian.  

LAST TIME OUT            
 DBU came away with a 4-0 victory over Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night thanks to a pair of goals in each half. Angelina Olmos bagged the Patriots' first goal in the second minute on one of their first possessions. In the 20th minute, a pass chain that started with Parker Coe led to Anne Louthan's fifth goal of the season. DBU dominated control and held the Greyhounds to four shots.  

In the second half, Taylor Tufts contributed a goal in the 61st minute and five minutes later, Kaleigh Naizer's corner kick resulted in a fight for possession that Sophie Schrock won to score her 19th career goal and to tie for the 10th most goals in program history. Other notables were that Taylor Tufts is tied for third all-time in assists in just two years and Breanna Bowen earned her 16th win of the season, tying her for fifth all-time in goalkeeper wins.  

PATRIOT STORYLINES              

  • DBU finished the regular season in second with 2.46 cumulative points per game. In first was Angelo State, and Texas Woman's finished third. Nationally, the Patriots are still No. 9 according to the United Soccer Coaches.  

  • The team has advanced to the Lone Star Conference Tournament quarterfinals every year since they joined in 2019. Before that, the Patriots were a part of the Heartland Conference where they qualified for the conference tournament quarterfinals from 2011 to 2018.  

  • The Patriots has not lost a conference tournament match since 2021 in the LSC Championship. 

  • DBU has allowed just four goals at home this season, with three coming from their quarterfinal opponent Oklahoma Christian.  

  • The Patriots are No. 2 in the nation in assists per game (2.94) and total assists (50). McKenna Vela leads the team in assists with eight on the season, ranking her No. 17 in the nation and second in the conference.  

  • DBU is No. 13 in shots per game, averaging an impressive 18.76 per match. Leading the team in this statistic is Taylor Tufts, who has made 64 shot attempts in 17 matches. She approaches DBU's top-10 in total shots in a season. Danielle Presley combined for 70 shots in 2012, securing the No. 10 spot in program history. 


SCOUTING OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN 

  • Oklahoma Christian boasts a conference record of 6-4-3, placing them in the seventh seed of the LSC Tournament. This marks their most Lone Star Conference wins in program history (6).  

  • In their most recent game, the Eagles earned a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M International, who finished the regular season 10th.  

  • OC's shot accuracy is third-best in the conference thanks to Kyla Lovelace who has contributed 45 shots this season with a shot-on-goal percentage of 68.9%. 

  • Lovelace is also 24th in the nation in game-winning goals, totaling four on the season. 

  • The team also boasts the third-best scoring offense in the conference, totaling 38 goals and 17 assists. 

  • Breanna Wooten is the Eagles' starting goalkeeper who is sixth in the conference in saves, combining for 70 in their 18 matches. Her save percentage is 77.1%. 


SERIES HISTORY        
The Patriots have a 14-1-2 record against OC with their most recent matchup on September 25 resulting in a 3-3 draw. In this game, Kyla Lovelace scored the equalizer with 0.1 seconds remaining on the clock. This marked the most goals the Eagles had scored on the Patriots in their 15-year series.  

Since 2009, DBU has only suffered one loss to OC. The two teams have never met in the conference quarterfinal match before.

The winner of this match will advance to the LSC semifinal match hosted by Angelo State. The time of this event has not been determined.
