No. 11 DBU faces the St. Mary's Rattlers in their final regular-season road test in San Antonio.

LAST TIME OUT

The Patriots put on an offensive showcase against the Midwestern State Mustangs at Patriot Soccer Field on Friday night, sealing their 11th victory of the season with a 5-0 shutout. Four goals in the first half and one in the second were the most MSU has allowed since August 2022.

Kaleigh Naizer scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute when one-touches by Angelina Olmos and McKenna Vela found her inside the box. Ten minutes later, Kaleigh Naizer made a penalty kick prompted by a handball called on MSU. Anne Louthan's long shot outside of the 18-yard box resulted in a third goal for the Patriots, and Annie Severide posted DBU's fourth goal in the 41st minute.

In the second half, DBU's defense warded off any offensive attempts by the Mustangs. Grace Berry netted the fifth and final goal for the Patriots in the 83rd minute after a passing combo by Emily Bates and Emma Croley. Midwestern State's offense was no match for DBU's defense, and the Patriots came away with a 5-0 victory.

PATRIOT STORYLINES

  • In the Lone Star Conference standings, the Patriots remain second to Angelo State, but there have been some changes to the post-season determination system. Since Angelo State's game against Sul Ross was canceled due to bad weather, causing a difference in the number of games played by the teams, the LSC will no longer use the point system to determine the top seven teams. The Soccer Operating Code in the LSC Handbook instructs the league to transition to using points per match (total points divided by number of games played) to rank the teams. • DBU also has 45 goals this season, boasting the sixth-best scoring offense in the nation. Angelina Olmos and Taylor Tufts have contributed seven goals each.

  • Senior goalkeeper Breanna Bowen ranks fourth in the conference in goals against average, boasting 78% in the statistic. She totals 27 saves on the season and has made all 15 starts.

SCOUTING ST. MARY'S

  • The Rattlers boast a conference record of 6-3-2 this season, placing them in fifth in the Lone Star Conference standings. They have won their last three consecutive games against Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M International, and Oklahoma Christian.

  • STMU boasts the fifth-best scoring offense in the Lone Star Conference, headed up by junior Shelby Paniagua's eight goals on the season. In their game against Oklahoma Christian, Paniagua achieved a hat trick, scoring three goals on the Eagles. Malia Dominguez and Alexis Truitt have contributed five goals each, and Natalie Gonzalez has scored four.

  • Paniagua is also third in the conference in assists per game, averaging 0.38. She is the team leader in both goals and assists, combining for six assists this season.

  • Rebecca Difronzo, the senior goalkeeper from Bari, Italy, leads in minutes on net for the Rattlers. She has played 1129 minutes and totals 50 saves on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
