COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
DBU dropped a 2-0 duel to St. Edward's University Saturday evening on the road. A SEU goal in the 30th and 42nd minute proved the difference as the Patriots were handed their second consecutive loss.
The Patriots had a few early chances to get ahead of the Hilltoppers in the first half but were denied by goalkeeper Angel Ramirez. SEU attempted a close shot in the box but the ball connected with the top post allowing the Patriots to deflect keeping the score 0-0. Peyton Voelker had a shot attempt in the 25th minute that led DBU to their first corner of the match. The Hilltoppers took the lead in the 30th minute with a set piece goal off a corner as Irvin Abarca sent a left footer to the corner post. Not 12 minutes later St. Edwards added to their advantage with a ball that slid past
Garrett McGee by Masood Porsa. The Patriots went into halftime trailing by two.
Entering the second half Evan Pustejovsky forced a driving dive from the Hilltoppers goalie as he attempted to get the Patriots on the scoreboard. DBU looked to have a chance at equalizing as Voelker connected with
Avery Brazzellon a pass inside the box, allowing Brazzell to knock a header into the net. However, the goal was sent back as Brazzell was called offside. The DBU offense fought its way into six shots in the second half but proved unable to place any of them on goal as the match ended in St. Edward's favor.
