THE RUNDOWN
The DBU STUNT program was back in action to close out their time in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and fell for the second straight time in a 22-4 loss to Alma University.
Quarter 1 - Partner Stunts Score: 1-3 The Patriots came out with high energy and scored one point against the Scots. It was an encouraging start against an extremely veteran and challenging competitor.Â
Quarter 2 - Pyramids and Tosses Score: 2-6 Going into quarter 2, DBU used the motivation from the previous quarter and focused on hitting sharp and clean routines. Though the Patriots only put up one more point against Alma, it continued to prove that DBU would not give up without a fight.Â
Quarter 3 - Jumps and Tumbling Score: 3-10 Following Halftime, DBU competed in a mix of upper-level and lower-level routines. The Scots are known to have strong tumbling techniques and continue to pull away from the Patriots. A huge accomplishment in this quarter was the tied point for DBU and Alma in JT 8. "In the midst of such a difficult game, tying the point in routine 8 was so huge for us!" Said interim Head Coach Mattie Royal. "
Robbie Garcia, #18, overcame fear and threw her cartwheel full for the first time in a game. This was a win on its own, but then tying the point was more than we could ask for! I am so proud of Robbie and the relentless way she has challenged herself physically and mentally."Â
Quarter 4 - Team Routine Final Score: 4-22 DBU continued to put up the best routines they could. Playing back-to-back games is physically and mentally exhausting, but the Patriots persevered. The DBU STUNT team put up a strong performance throughout the final quarter and tied one more point with the Scots during the partner stunt round of routine 4. "This game was ultimately fun and challenging at the same time," said Junior base
Krista Kizer. "We knew going into it that a double header game would be physically draining. We pushed through and put some great routines out on the mat. Playing Alma was an exciting game with great sportsmanship!"Â
