COUNTDOWN TO TIP-OFF
No. 3 DBU sneaked away with a 69-59, after trailing by as many as 12 in the first half, sweeping the season series against St. Edwards. Cameron Kahn led the Patriots with 23 points and eight rebounds to help lift DBU to their 13th conference win of the season.
SEU seized the early momentum, jumping out to a 17-12 lead with just under 12 minutes to play in the first half. The Hilltoppers later used a 6-0 run to push the margin to 12 points, 26-14, with 8:11 on the clock. In spite of the Patriots responding with an 8-3 run to pull within five, SEU took a six-point advantage, 41-35, into the locker room.
The Patriots scored the first six points of the second half and reclaimed the lead on a Cameron Kahn free throw. An 11-2 surge put DBU up 46-43 with 15:57 to go. The burst eventually extended to 19-6 as a
Deng Dut layup upped the cushion to six, 54-48, at the 9:37 mark. The Patriots extended their advantage to as high as eighth on multiple occasions until the Hilltoppers trimmed the margin to five when Jayden Johnston connected on a three-pointer. That would be as close as the Hilltoppers would get to DBU. A
Ta'Jay Dunlap three-pointer would extend the DBU lead back to 10 as the Patriots scored a 69-59 victory over SEU.
On Saturday, the Patriots will continue their schedule in Dallas, TX, against St. Mary's.
