THE RUNDOWN
No. 13 DBU Baseball fell to No. 9 TCU by a score of 9-6 on Tuesday night in front of the largest regular-season crowd in Horner Ballpark history. The Horned Frogs used nine runs on seven hits and took advantage of three costly Patriot errors to hand DBU their first midweek loss of the season.Â
It was the Patriots who hit the scoreboard first when
Grant Jay drove in his 24th run of the season on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first to put DBU up 1-0.
The Horned Frogs would strike for four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. TCU's big inning was highlighted by a two-run double from Kurtis Byrne and an RBI single off the bat of Logan Maxwell.
DBU would get one back in the bottom of the inning when
Chayton Krauss lifted one over the center field wall for his fifth home run of the year to cut the Frogs' lead in half.
TCU scored two runs in the sixth, one on a passed ball and the other on an RBI double from Chase Brunson. In the eighth, the Frogs were able to capitalize on a DBU wild pitch and an error to score three more runs and expand their lead to 9-2.
The Patriots would show some life in the bottom of the eighth as
Luke Heefner came through with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly from pinch hitter
Joey Nerat trimmed the Frogs' lead to five. In the ninth,
Ethan Mann crushed a two-run homer to center field to bring the score to 9-6 before Kyle Ayers struck out the next three batters to close out the game.
