No 18 DBU Baseball fell 9-7 at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon at the Frisco Classic. The loss ends the Patriots' program record nine-game winning streak to start the season.
Junior catcher Brock Tibbitts got Indiana off to a quick start with an RBI single in the bottom of the first to put the Hoosiers up 1-0.
DBU struck back in the bottom of the fourth when
Chayton Krauss sent a missile over the left field wall to give the Patriots a 2-1 lead. DBU would add four runs in the fifth, highlighted by three RBI singles from
Nathan Humphreys,
Luke Heefner, and
Chayton Krauss to extend their lead to 6-1.
The Hoosiers scored two in the top of the sixth to cut the DBU lead to 6-3 and used a four-run 7th capped off by a Brock Tibbitts three-run triple to take a 7-6 lead.
Indiana took advantage of a Patriots error on a pickoff attempt and got a clutch RBI single from Josh Pyne to tack on two in the eighth and take a 9-6 lead to the ninth inning.
Down to their last three outs, DBU got a run back on a solo home run from
Miguel Santos to make the score 9-7. The Patriots then put two runners on before a groundball double play off the bat of Humphreys ended the game.Â
