LAST TIME OUT
The DBU Men's Tennis squad soared to 13-4 after matches in the Sunshine State during the week. On Monday, the Patriots dropped a 2-5 decision to Rockhurst before collecting shutout wins against Atlantis, 7-0, and Crown College, 9-0. They defeated Coe College 6-3 on Tuesday before falling to Augustana the following day. The Patriots concluded their trip on Wednesday with a 9-0 shutout against Hope College.Â
In their opening loss to Rockhurst, the Patriots struggled in singles play as their lone win came from Alec Rule at the line 5 position. The teams of
Ricardo Carvajalino and
Fabian Rosales (line 1), 6-3, and
Arturo Langle and
Alec Rule (line 3), 6-2, each pulled out wins in doubles play. Despite the loss on Monday, the Patriots pulled out shutout wins against Crown College (9-0) and Atlantis (7-0), as each player notched a mark in the win column.Â
The Patriots defeated Coe College in their lone match on Tuesday, 6-3, as the teams of Zach Capone and
Alec Rule (8-1 at line 1) and
Oliver Whittaker and
Jacob Capone (8-2 at line 3) knocked in wins during doubles play. The Capone brothers, Zach (6-3, 6-3) and Jacob (6-4, 6-0), each garnered wins against the Kohawks along with
Mariano Guzman and
Braxton Jett, who defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in shutout sets.Â
DBU closed out the trip against Augustana and Hope College on Wednesday. The Patriots lost to Augustana, 3-4, as Ricardo Carvajalino and
Fabian Rosales, 6-1, rang in the only doubles win against the Vikings.
Arturo Langle (6-4, 6-7, 10-8),
Fabian Rosales (6-3, 6-2) and
Alec Rule (3-6, 7-5, 10-8) each came through with a singles win for the team. After the loss to Augustana, the Patriots ended their trip on a good note with a 7-0 win against Hope College.
Arturo Langle and
Trevor Vaccaro defeated their opponents 6-4 at line 1 singles, while
Ricardo Carvajalino and
Fabian Rosales notched their fourth victory of the week after a 6-2 win. The Patriots went undefeated in singles play against the Flying Dutchmen.Â
Fabian Rosales and
Alec Rule stood out as they played several great tennis matches this week.Â
Fabian Rosales went 4-0 in singles and 3-1 in doubles during the week, while
Alec Rule was 4-0 in singles, adding to his undefeated record in singles play this year (14-0). DBU's Head Coach
Wade Morgan also had a great week of tennis, earning his 300th coaching career win during the match against Atlantis.Â
PATRIOT STORYLINES
- The Patriots return to action on Thursday when they open Lone Star Conference Play.
- Edgar Mayorga earned LSC Player of the Week honors on 3/14.
- DBU is a combined 75-26 in singles play and owns a 36-15 mark in doubles.Â

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
DBU will face UT Permian Basin on Thursday in Odessa, Texas. UT Permian Basin competes at the NCAA Division II level and is out to a 12-2 start this spring. The Falcons own the all-time series, 11-0, against the Patriots since their first matchup on March 1, 2012. The Patriots face Western New Mexico on Saturday in Silver City, New Mexico. Western New Mexico competes at the NCAA Division II level and is out to a 4-9 start. The Patriots and the Mustangs are knotted for the all-time series with two wins apiece since their first match in 2006.Â
