Women’s Tennis Set to Face Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian

LAST TIME OUT
The DBU Women's Tennis team went 1-1 over the weekend. They defeated UAFS 6-1 on Friday before falling to Cameron 3-4 on Saturday.

The Lady Patriots were dominant in both doubles and singles sets against UAFS, only dropping one set in singles play. Isabella Arana Rios and Sofia Teran won against UAFS in line 1 doubles. They were followed by the doubles pairs of Madalyn Smelley, Caroline Hudson, Jenna Payne, and Sarah Castleberry, who went undefeated in doubles play over the weekend. 

In singles play, DBU won all their matches except for one against UAFS before falling to Cameron, only coming out with two wins. The Lady Patriots started the weekend with dominant wins against UAFS. Caroline Hudson (6-4,6-0), Leonie Schondelmaier (6-2,7-5), Madalyn Smelley (6-2,6-4), Isabella Arana Rios (6-1,6-0) and Emily Buchanan (6-0, 6-2) each picked up wins of their own to secure the match win. Against Cameron, Leonie Schondelmaier (6-3,3-6,6-3) and Emily Buchanan (7-6, 6-2) were the only Lady Patriots to pull out a singles victory over Cameron. 



PATRIOT STORYLINES
- Leonie Schondelmaier continued her run in singles, winning both of her matches this past weekend. 
Doubles were significant in the match against Cameron. They came from behind at the line 2 and line 3 positions to secure the doubles point. 
- The match against UAFS was dominated by the Lady Patriots, the only loss coming from a player retired from sickness. 
-  The match against Cameron came down to the wire, with the final result not falling to our advantage, but it was a very close match with a team ranked 31 in the country. 
- The Lady Patriots return to action when they face Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian this weekend. 
The Lady Patriots enter this week with a 95-29 record in singles play and a 52-7 record in doubles play.
- Emily Buchanan rides a 10-game, and Madalyn Smelly is currently 17-4 in singles action heading into this week. 
- Sarah Castleberry and Jenna Payne have been playing a massive part in securing the doubles points in matches at the line 3 position, as they are 13-0 this season. 


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

DBU will face Midwestern State on Friday and Lubbock Christian on Saturday. Midwestern State competes at the NCAA Division II level, is out to a 14-3 start this spring, and is currently ranked #4 in the country. The Mustangs own the all-time series, 11-2, against the Lady Patriots since their first matchup on March 23, 2006. Lubbock Christian competes at the NCAA Division II level and is out to an 18-4 start this spring and is currently ranked #20 in the country. The Chaps own the all-time series, 1-0, against the Lady Patriots since their first matchup on April 7, 2023.
