LAST TIME OUT
The DBU Women's Tennis team claimed a 4-1 victory over the St. Mary's Rattlers on Thursday in the LSC Quarterfinals.
The Lady Patriots came out strong in doubles, winning at the line 3 position and then coming back from when the ladies were down 1-4 at line 2 to win the doubles point. Singles play was strong at the bottom of the lineup.
Emily Buchanan (6-0, 6-3) won in straight sets to put DBU up 2-0, followed by
Sofia Teran (6-2,6-3) who won at the line 5 position to put the Lady Patriots up 3-0.
Caroline Hudson ( 2-6,3-6) fell at the line 1 position but Isabella Rios (7-5, 6-2) was able to defeat her opponent at line 4 to clinch the match for the Lady Patriots.
Leonie Schondelmaier and
Madalyn Smelley were unable to finish their matches in the third set because of the match being won before their sets ended.
This is the first time DBU has advanced in the LSC tournament since entering the conference. The Lady Patriots defeated the rattlers which are the 2 time defending champions and also their 4th win over a nationally ranked opponent this season.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
- DBU finished 6-4 in Lone Star Conference play and 4th in the conference standings.
- DBU will have as close to home-court advantage as they can get, as the tournament is being played right down the road in Arlington, Texas.
- The Lady Patriots will look to upset first-seed Midwestern State.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Midwestern State is 10-0 in conference play to earn them the number one spot in the LSC, and are 19-3 overall. The Lady Patriots are looking to avenge their 2-5 loss to the Mustangs. Midwestern State owns the all-time series, 12-2.
