STUNT Concludes Season With Loss to Maryville at Nationals

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU STUNT program played a great game against Maryville University that ended in a tough loss in the final routine of the last quarter. The final score was 15-12, closing out the 2024 STUNT season for the Patriots.

FINAL SCORE (DBU-12, MU-15)

Quarter 1 - Partner Stunts Score: 4-0 The Patriots started the game focused and strong by taking all four points in quarter one.

Quarter 2 - Pyramids and Tosses Score: 5-4 This is the strongest quarter for the Saints, and it showed. Maryville took all 4 points in this quarter, with DBU only tying one point in routine five. These points were crucial to keep Maryville from falling too far behind early in the game.

Quarter 3 - Jumps and Tumbling Score: 8-5 Both teams continued to put forth their best routines to receive the point. DBU called routines seven and eight. With Maryville forfeiting both routines, the Patriots received the points and held their lead against the Saints moving into the final quarter.

Quarter 4 - Team Routine Final Score: 12-15 With only a three-point difference between both teams, the pressure to perform for both teams intensified. Moving into the final round of the fourth quarter the score was tied up and the Saint's had possession. They called routine six and after much deliberation by the judges, Maryville swept all three points from the Patriots. This loss solidified the end of the season for DBU, while Maryville moved on to the semifinal game.

"This was a tough loss after a well matched and hard-fought game," said Assistant Coach Mattie Royal. "I am so proud of all this team has accomplished and how far they have come this season. We have thirteen seniors that gave their all this weekend and played each game like it was their last. As athletes, you live for these high intensity moments. Unfortunately, this one did not go in our favor. Maryville is a great team that is very well coached. We look forward to facing them again next season."
