DBU Finishes Off Sweep of Liberty in 5-1 Win Over Flames

THE RUNDOWN
DBU Baseball claimed a 5-1 win in game two of a doubleheader against Liberty on Saturday at Horner Ballpark to earn a series sweep in the Patriots' final home CUSA series. DBU's Jerrod Jenkins held the Flames scoreless over 5.2 innings to earn his fifth win of the year.

The Patriots used RBI doubles in back-to-back innings to climb out to an early lead. Alex Pendergast and Chayton Krauss each lined shots into the left center field gap to put the Patriots up 2-0. Ethan Mann extended DBU's lead in the fifth when he shot an RBI single off the glove of Liberty's second baseman, which allowed Chayton Krauss to score from second on a great baserunning play.

A pair of solo home runs helped put this game out of reach for DBU. Grant Jay blasted his 17th home run of the season into the DBU bullpen in the sixth to push the Patriots lead 4-0. Game one's hero Tom Poole continued his hot hitting in the seventh when he drove another home run to right to make it 5-0 DBU.

Liberty managed to scratch across one run in the eighth thanks to a solo home run by Kane Kepley, but that was the only run the Flames would get against a DBU pitching staff that had a solid day. James Ellwanger, Jerrod Jenkins, Nick Wilson, River Ridings, and Conner Mackay combined to hold the Flames to just one run on five hits as DBU completed their sixth series sweep of the season.
