No. 12 DBU Hosts MSU Denver at Patriot Soccer Field

No. 12 Patriots lace up for their second match of the season against MSU Denver at Patriot Soccer Field.  

LAST TIME OUT 

The Patriots come off a 2-0 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon. In the seventh minute, junior Parker Coe made a shot from the 35 yard-line to give DBU a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The Patriots continued to dominate possession, making five shot attempts in the second half before Joeli Benson headed DBU's second goal into the net.  

DBU defense continued to pressure any advances SWOSU made, and senior goalkeeper Breanna Bowen blocked the Bulldogs' only shot of the game with three minutes left in the match.  

PATRIOT STORYLINES   

  • DBU moved up to No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll rankings following their shutout against SWOSU on Saturday. They are also ranked No. 2 in the South Central Region. 

  • The Patriots rank No. 10 in the nation in shots per game after totaling 22 against the Bulldogs. In the conference, they rank third. 22 shots ties DBU's record for most shots in a single match.  

  • Annie Severide totals three shots on goal this season, which ranks her No. 12 in the nation for shots on goal per game. In the conference, she is No. 2, trailing Reagan Matacale from West Texas A&M by two.  

  • Senior goalkeeper Breanna Bowen earned her fifth career shutout against SWOSU and now ranks 8th in DBU's shutout records. Kerry Edwards holds the record for most shutouts in her career totaling 48.  


SCOUTING MSU DENVER 

  • MSU Denver is No. 7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rankings and ranks 8th in the South Central Region. They also received votes for the national top 25 poll for Division II women's soccer.  

  • The Roadrunners tied both No. 20 Western Washington and Western Oregon in their first two matches of the season. In two games, they total three shots on goal as a team.  

  • The Roadrunners' senior goalkeeper Kylie Bach was named the RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week after posting her 17th and 18th career shutouts to open the season. This season, she combines for eight saves thus far. 

  • MSUD welcomed just two freshmen onto their 27-man team. The team is majority upperclassmen, totaling 11 juniors and five seniors. 

 
SERIES HISTORY   
Last season, the Patriots posted a 4-0 win over the Roadrunners at Assembly Athletic Complex in Denver, CO. Before this shutout, DBU had lost two years in a row to the Roadrunners. DBU has a 2-3-2 record against MSU Denver. 

UP NEXT  

The Patriots face Central Oklahoma on September 15 for their first road test. Play will begin at 1 P.M. at Tom Thompson Soccer Field.
