Last Minute Penalty Kick By Northeastern State Results in 1-1 Draw Against DBU

Box Score THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots fought to a 1-1 draw against Northeastern State on Saturday night at Patriot Soccer Field. Gavyn Rosales scored his second goal of the season in the 19th minute. The Patriots were just eight minutes away from claiming their first clean sheet of the season when NSU's Luis Karam Felipe delivered the equalizer.

DBU relied heavily on their defense as NSU opened the match quickly attacking the goal as their first shot of the night came in the seventh minute. Three minutes later Evan Pustejovsky aimed to open scoring for the Patriots but his attempt was off the crossbar. However, Pustejovkys's attempt was not in vain as in the 13th minute Bruno Correra sent the ball across the goal box hoping to hit anyone and Gavyn Rosales was right there in the box to make the connection and score the first goal. Rosales's goal marks the first goal DBU has been able to make in the first half of this season. The Riverhawks desperately tried to get a shot past Patrick Banich to equalize but top-notch skill from Banich and the Patriot's defense kept NSU at bay. Pustejovsky would look to add to DBU's advantage in the 19th minute but NSU's Gonzalo Castells cleared his shot. NSU started to put together a few solid looks in the final minutes of the first half as they eventually outshot the Patriots 8-7 but could not equalize ending the half in the Patriot's favor.

Early in the second half, NSU had a chance to equalize after Dominic Verdi was called for a foul essentially giving the Riverhawks a free kick right outside the box but the shot was off target. Banich notched another excellent save as NSU's Luis Karam Felipe looked to open the scoring with a scissor kick but Banich was right there to keep the Riverhawks at bay. As the second half continued both teams continued to battle up and down the pitch until a foul on Cody Tice awarded NSU a penalty kick in the 86th minute. Luis Karam Felipe was able to get the PK past Banich allowing the Riverhawks to get on the board, 1-1. NSU would look to create an advantage as they were able to get Banich out of the goal, allowing for a Riverhawk striker to get the ball into the box. However, the Patriot's defense was there to keep NSU from pulling ahead as Pustejovsy cleared it with a header.
